Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) is a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
Insider’s tip: “Immensely satisfying action thriller” (Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post). Allen Salkin, New York Daily News, adds: “An international action thriller that starts slow but picks up speed and just outruns its own clichés to make for a gripping two-hour ride.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: “Gorgeously shot by Enrique Chediak, American Assassin may be too slick for its own good, but O’Brien cuts deep enough to make you root for a Rapp franchise. That’s saying something. . . . Even when logic goes up in flames, Michael Cuesta’s thriller speeds ahead like a heat-seeking missile. Michael Keaton and new star Dylan O’Brien make action fireworks seem fresh again.”
